Rennes Score mammoplasty breast surgery

Introduction

Breast reduction surgery for hypertrophy is one of the most commonly performed procedures in plastic surgery. This procedure exposes patients to complications well documented in the literature.

To optimize the post-operative care of our patients, it is important to understand the risk factors of complications of this procedure in order to treat them before the surgery and to make the post-operative care as simple as possible.

In order to establish an estimate of the risk of developing complications we conduct a study investigating 1306 patients who underwent superior pedicle reduction mammoplasty at the Rennes University Hospital (France) between 2011 and 2016.

Primary endpoint was to study association between known preoperative risk factors and occurrence of any complications using multivariate logistic regression in order to identify independent risk factors. Secondary endpoint was to establish a score to estimate a probability of occurrence of complication.

The Rennes Plastic Surgery Score

The Rennes Plastic Surgery Score estimating occurrence of postoperative complications was determined, integrating regression coefficient of each risk factor.
It is the first predictive score of postoperative complications including continuous preoperative variables like Body Mass Index (BMI) and Supra Sternal Notch to Nipple distance (SSN:N).

The “Rennes Plastic Surgery Score” is a precise, interactive, and statistically validated score, allowing us to give the patient a reliable and figurative message about risk of complications they are exposed to. This could enable us to optimize our therapeutic education and better prepare them for this procedure.
