Rennes score of abdominal coutouring surgery
Introduction

Abdominal contouring surgeries are among the most commonly performed operations in plastic surgery. While these procedures offer well-documented functional and aesthetic benefits, they also expose patients to a risk of complications, such as infections, seromas, and wound dehiscence.
We conducted a retrospective study of 1,364 patients who underwent procedures between January 2015 and May 2023 at the University Hospital of Rennes.
The primary aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors associated with complications following abdominal contouring surgeries. The secondary objective was to develop a preoperative complication prediction score that could be used to improve patient assessment and guide the choice of surgical procedures.
The results show that factors such as BMI, diabetes, smoking, procedure type, and sex are associated with a higher risk of complications. Based on this data, we developed a preoperative risk score, which was validated using a test cohort.
The Rennes Plastic Surgery Score
The Rennes Plastic Surgery Score estimating occurrence of postoperative complications was determined, integrating regression coefficient of each risk factor.
It is the first predictive score of postoperative complications including continuous preoperative variables like Body Mass Index (BMI) and Supra Sternal Notch to Nipple distance (SSN:N).
The “Rennes Plastic Surgery Score” is a precise, interactive, and statistically validated score, allowing us to give the patient a reliable and figurative message about risk of complications they are exposed to. This could enable us to optimize our therapeutic education and better prepare them for this procedure.
